Mandatory Pre- and Post-Tenancy Photographs
Starting April 1, 2025, Los Angeles landlords must take photographs of rental units after a tenant vacates and again after restoring the unit to rentable condition. By July 1, 2025, photographs of the unit's condition before leasing to new tenants will also be required. To comply, landlords should photograph all key areas, securely store date-stamped images, and use them as evidence for security deposit disputes or damage claims.
